Wave propagation in rotating magnetised plasmas

چکیده

Abstract Wave propagation properties in a medium are fundamentally affected when this is moving instead of at rest. In isotropic dielectric media rotation has two noteworthy contributions: one mechanically induced circular birefringence, which materialises as the polarisation, other image rotation, corresponds to transverse structure wave. Here, we review effect magnetised plasma. We also point out applications both astrophysical phenomena and laboratory devices. first show that mechanical on polarisation plasma superimposed onto classical Faraday failing account for new contribution could lead errors interpretation polarimetry data. demonstrate recovered plasmas number low-frequency waves carrying orbital angular momentum phenomenon holds promise development diagnostic tools plasmas.

Electromagnetic wave propagation and absorption in magnetised plasmas: variational formulations and domain decomposition

We consider a model for the propagation and absorption of electromagnetic waves (in the time-harmonic regime) in a magnetised plasma. We present a rigorous derivation of the model and several boundary conditions modelling wave injection into the plasma. Then we propose several variational formulations, mixed and non-mixed, and prove their well-posedness thanks to a theorem by Sébelin et al. Fin...

Magnetised Electron - Positron Plasmas

Electrostatic oscillations in cold electron-positron plasmas can be coupled to a propagating electromagnetic mode if the background magnetic field is in-homogeneous. Previous work considered this coupling in the quasi-linear regime, successfully simulating the electromagnetic mode. Here we present a stability analysis of the non-linear problem, perturbed from dynamical equilibrium , in order to...

Wave propagation with rotating intensity distributions.

Wave fields containing invariant features have recently stimulated the interest of the scientific community. Typical examples of such fields are Gaussian modes, Bessel beams @1#, and wave fronts containing phase dislocations @2#. Bessel beams are solutions of the wave equation that propagate with invariant intensity. Phase dislocations are discontinuities of the phase in a wave front such that ...

Darwin-Vlasov simulations of magnetised plasmas

We present a new Vlasov code for collisionless plasmas in the nonrelativistic regime. A Darwin approximation is used for suppressing electromagnetic vacuum modes. The spatial integration is based on an extension of the flux-conservative scheme, introduced by Filbet et al. [F. Filbet, E. Sonnendrücker, P. Bertrand, Conservative numerical schemes for the Vlasov equation, J. Comput. Phys. 172 (200...

Phenomenological Analysis of Shock-Wave Propagation in Weakly Ionized Plasmas

Shock propagation into weakly ionized gases shows several features differing markedly from conventional, nonionized-gas shock structure. Phenomenological analysis of general macroscopic features of the previously observed plasma shock effects allows only two possible interpretations: existence of an energy (momentum) flux toward the wave precursor or volumetric energy release (exothermic phase ...
